How to care for your candle for the cleanest most beautiful burn
Every True Vintage Candle is poured by hand using our signature coconut-beeswax blend, chosen for its clean burn, creamy texture, and fragrance throw. With a few simple rituals, you can extend the life of your candle and enjoy a consistently beautiful burn from first light to final glow.
BEFORE EACH BURN
- Trim the Wick: Keep your wick at ¼ inch before every lighting. A shorter wick ensures a steady flame, minimizes soot, and prevents smoking.
- Center the Wick: After extinguishing, gently recenter the wick while the wax is still warm. This ensures the wax melts evenly on your next burn.
- Start With a Clean Vessel: Remove any wick trimmings, matches, or wax debris. A clean surface ensures a perfect melt pool.
DURING BURNING
- The First Burn Sets the Candle’s Memory: Allow the wax to melt fully to the edges of the vessel on your very first burn. This prevents tunneling and helps your candle burn evenly for all future uses.
- Burn for 3–4 Hours at a Time: Short burns reduce scent throw and cause tunneling. Burns longer than 4 hours can overheat your candle and lead to high flames, soot, or uneven performance.
- Keep Flames Away From Drafts: A flickering flame means your candle is sitting in a draft. Move away from windows, vents, or fans to ensure a calm, even burn.
- Always Use a Heat-Resistant Surface: Melted wax retains heat. Protect your furniture with a coaster, tray, or candle plate.
EXTINGUISHING & AFTERCARE
- Use a Wick Dipper or Candle Snuffer: Blowing out candles can cause splatter and smoke. Both of these methods extinguish cleanly and help set the wick for the next use:
- Wick Dipper - Dip the wick into the melted wax, then stand it upright.
- Candle Snuffer - Or place a snuffer over the flame for about 5 seconds.
- Cover after cooling: Replace the lid only once the candle is fully cooled. This keeps dust out and helps preserve fragrance integrity.
- Store Thoughtfully: Keep candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent discoloration, sweating, or warping.
When finished, give your vintage vessel new life as a planter, trinket dish, pen holder, or keepsake bowl. Every True Vintage Candle piece is crafted to be collected and repurposed.
